New DHAA insurance package is a huge success

The recent addition of Professional Indemnity (PI) insurance to DHAA membership has received outstanding support. The June 30 watershed has seen a huge spike in renewal activity and the future is looking pretty rosy for the dental hygienist and oral health therapist community.

“The DHAA board took a decision to extend the number of benefits available to our members, and PI insurance forms a major part of this,” explains Dr Mel Hayes, DHAA President.

Many existing PI insurance policies require renewal at the end of the tax year so it made sense to align the new membership package with this date.

Re-aligning the membership renewal process has required months of planning and re-structuring. A new website was built to manage the new, simplified registration process. Behind this sits an entirely new membership management platform that will form the central hub of all membership–related activity in years to come.

“Having sourced the ideal insurance partner, one of our main priorities was to ensure that existing members were not out-of-pocket. The distribution of coupon codes to all currently active members has guaranteed that anyone signing up to the new database has not been penalised,” says Hayes.

“The whole process has been a resounding success and I am proud to say that our association numbers have grown in the process. This means that our collective voice carries more weight when we need to stand up for our profession.”

This collective voice has been raised recently in the ongoing DHAA campaign to fight for the award-free status of dental hygienists and oral health therapists.

Other promotions have had to take a back seat while the association has concentrated on the PI insurance launch. With that now behind us we are in a position to highlight some of the other great member benefits.

“The big insurance push may be over but I want to re-assure people that they can sign up for membership and for professional indemnity insurance at any time. All mid-term applications will be pro-rated so, once again, new sign-ups will not be expected to pay over the odds. We hope to welcome even more members over the coming months.

Finally we urge you to turn your attention to this year’s DHAA National Symposium in Adelaide (SA17). “Registrations are flooding in,” says Ali Taylor, speaking on behalf of the SA17 organising committee.

The national event is getting better every year and the return to the association’s spiritual home in South Australia seems to be a very popular one.

“We have a host of great speakers already confirmed and arrangements are well under-way to ensure that this is an outstanding event.”
