You are invted to join us for breakfast and a lecture from Dr Ernie Altman BDS (Hons) MDS (Syd) MHP ( UNSW.) This will be a two part lecture.
Lecture 1: Polypharmacy
Polyphamrcy is no longer a finding limited to older patients. Use of multiple theraputic and “recreational” drugs and supplements is a prominent feature of many lifestyles.
There have been recent proposals to reduce the use of paracetamol for children and to limit antibiotics; distinctions will be made between appropriate and inappropriate polypharmacy, and suggestions made for interpreting complex pharmaceutical histories.
Lecture 2: Non- Carious loss of tooth structure
Tooth wear is a common outcome for some lifestyles, and is often multifactorial. Effective history taking can lead to indicators that enviromental stress and diet may not be the only possible triggers. Appropriate referral may contribute to an improved quality of life and the identification of possibly life threatning medical conditions.
