About the presenter
Dr Christine May BDS(Hons) USyd BHSc(TCM) UTS Founder FaceWell Teledentistry
Oral health professionals (OHPs) – dental hygienists, therapists and oral health practitioners – often win the trust and confidence of patients before dentists do and often achieve better oral health behaviour changes with patients through coaching and therapy better than dentists do. Currently however the majority work in the same clinical setting as dentists so the unique skill set OHPs bring to the profession is frequently under-utilised for reasons of skills overlap, clinic setup and overheads. As the Australian demographic shifts due to factors including urban density, relocation to more rural and remote settings, and ageing, the oral health access needs of Australians is also changing. Patient desire for more flexible engagement in dental services is increasing, as evidenced by a surge in DIY, mobile services and cheaper alternatives. This webinar will explore how teledentistry could provide a valuable conduit for OHPs to work more flexibly and fully within the scope of dental practice; improve access to quality professional oral health care for those that struggle to use a traditional dental service; and help prevent Australians being sucked into gimmicky or low quality dental
