Considering a Sugary Sweet Beverages (SSBs) tax?
Webinar lecture objectives:
- Explore high-fructose corn syrup in SSBs and its health effects on the body
- Update on obesity issue in Australia, Mexico, UK & USA
- Identify advertising comparisons of the SSB Industry to Tobacco Industry
- Understand the different SSBs tax models and how it translates to existing and potential strategies to combat overconsumption of sugary drinks
- Explore the role of Oral Health Therapists and Dental Hygienists in advocating a SSBs tax
Ian Epondulan is an oral health therapist and completed a Bachelor of Oral Health (BOH) degree from The University of Sydney and has clinical experience in Public Health Dentistry at NSW Health. He recently completed a Master of Public Health (MPH) at The University of Sydney and is passionate about health promotion and health advocacy especially amongst adolescents linking oral health with general health.
Ian currently volunteers for the Dental Hygienists Association of Australia (DHAA) Ltd. as the Chair of Oral Health Promotion/Public Health Special Interest Group (OHPPHSIG) which is heavily involved in the Rethink Sugary Alliance, a partnership between 16 allied health and community organisations concerned about tackling the overconsumption of sugary drinks.
Ian is currently Executive Assistant at the Department of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine of The Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney and works with a multidisciplinary team looking at Dental Sleep Medicine and treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA) with Mandibular Advancement Splints (MAS).
