DHAA Vic – Hands-On Multi-Stream CPD Day

DHAA Victoria will be hosting full day of multi-stream, hands-on CPD workshops at La Trobe University, Bendigo.

About this Event

Delegates are invited to select one of three sponsored hands-on streams:

  • EMS Airflow: Guided Biofilm Therapy (12 places)
  • Hall Technique presented by Dr Hanny Calache & GC Perfecting the posterior restoration (20 places)
  • Half-day Hu Friedy Instrumentation & half day Cynergex medical emergencies training (15 places)

Catering will be supplied by PepperGreen Farm – a business that supports people with a disability and supplies quality fresh food using locally sourced ingredients, including staples from their own farm.

There will be trade tables from all of our sponsors: Tepe, Colgate, EMS, Hu-Friedy and GC.

Program in Detail

The day will begin with a Colgate sponsored Lecture by Professor Mark Bartold – “Whole mouth health – an evolving paradigm” and then we will break into our chosen streams, of which places are very limited.

Professor Mark Bartold is an Emeritus Professor at the University and formerly Professor of Periodontics and Director of the Colgate Australian Clinical Dental Research Centre, University of Adelaide. He is a past President of the International Academy of Periodontology, the Asian Pacific Society of Periodontology, and Division of Periodontics of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons. He is on the editorial board of 8 international dental journals, Associate Editor of the Journal of Periodontal Research and Editor of the Australian Dental Journal. His research is focused on the use of periodontal stem cells for periodontal regeneration and periodontal/systemic health interrelationships. Professor Bartold has authored over 270 scientific articles. He also works half time in private specialist periodontal practice.

EMS: Guided Biofilm Therapy: Practical protocol for saving teeth & implants

HANDS-ON WORKSHOP (Clinician on clinician)

This workshop is the ideal platform for dental professionals wanting to perfect themselves. Participants will have an opportunity to follow the complete Guided Biofilm Therapy protocol step-by-step clinically on one another in the clinic chair (participants must be comfortable to work on one another). Dental professionals will learn to maximise efficiency and patient comfort.

Learn how to:

  • Correctly utilise supra and sub gingival air polishing devices to eliminate biofilm prior to hard deposit removal
  • Correctly apply ultrasonic instrumentation for optimal hard deposit removal.

Speaker: Tabitha Acret

Tabitha has 22 years experience in the dental industry. She graduated from Newcastle University in 2008 with a Bachelor of Oral Health and has since worked in private practice and as dental educator at Sydney University. Tabitha is passionate about community dentistry, preventative care and implant maintenance. She has volunteered clinically both within Australia and overseas and volunteers on a regular basis for the Dental Hygienists Association of Australia (DHAA). She is the current DHAA National Vice President, Northern Territory Director and Chair of Continuing Education nationally.

Implant maintenance is her passion and Tabitha has travelled extensively overseas to obtain more knowledge on the subject including the Malo Clinic in Portugal. She is currently undertaking her Implant Maintenance certification in Washington DC, USA.

Tabitha is working in private practice in the Northern Territory and has just started her Master’s in Public Health at Charles Darwin University. She also splits her time working as a Clinical Educator for EMS Oceania, helping to pass on her knowledge and passion to ‘keep implants for life’

Hu-Friedy Workshop

Speaker: Deb Brown RDH

Deb is a Dental Hygienist with a Grad Dip in Restorative Dental Hygiene (Canada). She has worked in a variety of health care settings over the past 30 years in both hospital and private practices providing care in general dentistry, periodontics, orthodontics, TMJ and facial pain as well as medically compromised patients. Deb holds a Cert IV TAE and Grad Cert in Clinical Teaching. Deb was a clinical supervisor and lecturer at RMIT in Melbourne and is currently a clinical demonstrator at Melbourne University as well as working in private practice. She has provided training nationally to Oral Health Professionals in assisting their patients to QUIT smoking and has held both Executive and Non-Executive committee positions with the Dental Hygienists Association of Australia. Deb is an Educational consultant for both Hu-Friedy and EMS Swiss Dental Academy.

GC Perfecting the posterior Resortation

This course will provice clincial information on material selection and placement techniques for posterior restroations including simplet solutions for managing the challanges of adhesive denistry.

Participants will complete both class 1 and class II posterior restoration utilising a combination of new glass hybrid materials and next generation resin adhesive and composite materials

Learning objectives

  • Material selection options and placement techniques for direct posterior restorations
  • Matrix selection and creating ideal contacts
  • Simplifie technique for re-creating occlusal anatomy

Speaker: Paulette Smith

Paulette graduated from the University of Adelaide in Dental Therapy and has spent over 12 years in both private practice and the public sector, with a focus on preventative dentistry and oral health education.

Paulette joined GC Australasia Dental over 10 years ago in a sales and clinical education training role including facilitating hands on workshops. She has also been fortunate to participate in several international hands on courses focusing on aesthetic restorative dentistry and fibre technology.
