Shamus will be presenting on ways to reduce practice risk and key aspects of professional indemnity insurance policy.
Is your infection control knowledge up-to-date? Do you meet the requirements of the National Law? As a registered dental practitioner, it is YOUR responsibility to ensure you practise in a way that maintains and enhances public health and safety – this includes knowing how to prevent or minimize the risk of the spread of infectious diseases. This session will explore what documentation is required for your practice and how to follow these critical guidelines, to protect both yourself and the public.
Lets get Digital – How to maintain a professional profile on social media:
We are living in a digital age so its important to have a clear understanding of what is expected of us professioanls when it comes to social media. The presentation will give a brao overview of AHPRA guidelines in regards to use of sical media for buisnesses and professionals, how you can use socail media to increase your professional profile and some of the pitfalls of using social media.

About the Speaker
Shamus is the Managing Director of the Australian Affinity office. Shamus has more than 20 years of industry experience, having served senior roles at two of the major international brokers in the affinity and healthcare sectors. His passion for creating meaningful member value for associations and its members has seen him focus on this industry throughout his career as an insurance broker.
Dr Marilyn Owen: Specialist Paediatric Dentist
Dr Owen is a Specialist Paediatric Dentist who cares for children at Tassie Kids Dental, located in both Hobart and Launceston. Currently, she is the only Children’s Dental Specialist in the state.
In 2002, she obtained her Bachelor of Dental Science degree with honours, from The University of Western Australia. Her diverse experiences have included the school dental service, rural government practice and metropolitan private practice in both W.A. and Victoria. Following a period of maternity leave, she undertook Paediatric Dentist training at The University of Melbourne between 2012 – 2015.
Dental decay and enamel defects (chalky teeth) are of particular interest to Dr Owen; these research areas were the subject of her postgraduate thesis. Her research into enamel defects has involved The D3 Group; she headed the team that successfully obtained the Wrigley Company Foundation ADAF Community Service Grant in 2013 and 2014.
Professionally she is am a member of the Australian Dental Association, International Association for Dental Research, Australian and New Zealand Society of Paediatric Dentistry, and Australasian Academy of Paediatric Dentistry.
Danielle Gibbens, Dental Hygienist
Danielle has been a Dental Hygienist for 10 years graduating from South Australia’s ADOH programme. Since then she has been working in private practice across the state of Tasmania in both general and specialist practices. When not at work Danielle is often volunteering for the DHAA in a range of roles such as Tasmanian Director but most recently social media volunteer and Editor of the Bulletin. She is also curently studying a Masters in Public Health through the Univeristy of Tasmania, has written articles for dental companies and has been invited to speak at several conferences.

DHAA Members: To obtain the discounted DHAA Ltd Membership price you are required to be a financial member of the DHAA Ltd on the date of purchase.
Student Members: Student Members must be an eligible and current student member of the DHAA Ltd at the time of purchasing the ticket. DHAA Student Membership is free and expires on 30 June of the year following your graduation.
Cancellation Policy: 10 days notice must be given in writing to [email protected], if you cannot attend, to receive a refund. Reimbursements will not be made after this time. Registration can be transferred to another person of the same membership status.
