Presenter Biographies
Professor John Kaidonis
Topic: The Oral Ecosystem in Health and Disease: its relationship with Minimum Intervention Dentistry

Full time Associate Professor at the Dental School, The University of Adelaide. Involved with post-graduate supervision and under-graduate teaching. Research focus is primarily on the mechanisms of tooth wear and the significance of oral biofilms in contemporary and pre-contemporary populations. Other interests include human biology, craniofacial growth and development, anatomy and comparative anatomy. Personal research and international collaborations have resulted in 2 textbooks, 19 book chapters and over 100 publications. Has refereed for numerous Journals and has been invited speaker at conferences and symposia both internationally and nationally on numerous occasions.

Dr Sushil Kaur
Topic: Classification of Periodontal and Peri-implant Disease and Condition

Sushil graduated from the University of Adelaide completing her BDS, MDSc (Distinction) in Periodontics, DClinDent in Periodontics and was admitted as a Fellow of The Royal College of Surgeons (FRACDS) in the Special Field Stream of Periodontics in 2006.
She is currently a Senior Lecturer and the Undergraduate Coordinator for the Discipline of Periodontics at the Adelaide Dental School, University of Adelaide. She is also involved with teaching both BDS and BOH at the University of Adelaide and the Advanced Diploma of Hygiene (ADOH) at TAFE, Gillies Plains. She currently examines the ADOH course, the Australian Dental Council (ADC) Exams & process for the FRACDS Exams. She has recently been appointed to the ADC Register of Assessors for both, the Accreditation process for Dentistry & Specialist Programs. She is actively involved in Honours Students’ Research & also works in Private Practice.
Sushil has been actively involved with the DClinDent (Perio) program between 2009-2013 after which, the program was discontinued. She then, took over the role of Convener for the DClinDent (Perio) Program which has recently obtained Accreditation by the ADC & DBA. She works very closely with South Australian Dental Services (SADS) as a team in management of State wide patients in the Specialist Clinic for Periodontics.

Assoc. Prof. Cathy Snelling
Topic: Imaging technologies impact on clinical practice

Associate Professor Cathy Snelling is an Education Specialist at the Adelaide Dental School, University of Adelaide, and a visiting lecturer at the Centre for Dental Studies, TAFE SA Gilles Plains. She has been involved with the education and training of all members of the dental team for more than 25 years and has a special interest in all forms of dental imaging. Cathy is still actively involved in clinical practice, so brings a practitioner’s perspective to her teaching and professional presentations.
Cathy is a highly regarded teacher in the higher education and dentistry sectors, having presented at numerous national and international conferences and professional development events. In 2013, she won an Australian Award of University Teaching and has twice won the University of Adelaide Stephen Cole the Elder Award for Teaching Excellence. In 2018, Cathy was granted a Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy, a world-wide institution for teaching excellence.

Eleanor Parker
Cultural Safety & Dental Care

Eleanor graduated with an Adelaide BDS in 2000 and a Graduate Diploma in Clinical Dentistry in 2002.
Eleanor managed the Pika Wiya Oral Health Program in Port Augusta for 5 years and began teaching undergraduate Dental and Oral Health Students in 2002. Her commitment to improving Indigenous Oral Health through service and education lead to her being named Young Professional of the Year by Professions Australia. Eleanor has worked for the School of Dentistry in Adelaide since 2006. During this time she has been a Chief Investigator for a NHMRC Grant addressing Oral Health Literacy for Indigenous Australians and in International Collaborative Indigenous Health Research Grant to prevent Early Childhood Caries amongst Aboriginal children in South Australia.
One of Eleanor’s key roles in the Adelaide Dental School has been taking the lead in the development of an Indigenous Cultural Safety Curriculum. Eleanor is committed to supporting undergraduate dental students develop into good clinicians who understand and care about the contributions they can make to the communities in which they work.
Eleanor is particularly passionate about improving health outcomes for disadvantaged groups such Indigenous Australians, refugees and people who have experienced homelessness, through research and the development of a future profession committed to delivering good care that is tailored to the needs of the more vulnerable and at risk members of our society.

If you would like to make a weekend of it, just mention the Dental Hygienists function on Saturdays 25th of May and the friendly Whalers Inn staff will grant you a generous 10% discount.
THREE BEDROOM APARTMENTS – Offer Ocean & Island views across Encounter Bay and beyond, 2 story apartment with open plan living and large kitchen, 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms both with shower/ toilet and one containing a spa bath, flat screen TV, DVD, reverse cycle air conditioning and large front balcony with outdoor setting.
Rates are based on number of bedrooms required. Doors are locked/ unlocked as necessary.
1 bedroom for 1-2 guests = $295.00 per night, 2 bedroom for 3- 4 guests =$325.00 per night, 3 bedroom for 5- 6 guests = $385.00 per night
OCEAN VIEW STUDIOS – Offer Ocean & Island Views across Encounter Bay and beyond, with a spa bath and separate shower, kitchenette, open plan living area containing queen bed, lounge suite, Kitchen table, flat screen TV, DVD, reverse cycle air conditioning and balcony with ocean views.
The rate for these rooms is $239.00 per night for 1-2 guests. The lounge can be made into a double sofa bed for an additional $30 per night. We recommend either 1 adult or 2 small children for use of the sofa bed for comfort reasons.
*Please note these rooms contain external & internal stairs.
OCEAN AND POOL VIEW STUDIOS – Two of these rooms are easily accessed with no stairs or ramps, however still offer Pool & Ocean Views, bathroom with spa bath, separate shower, hand held shower head and a shower chair, kitchenette, open plan living area containing queen bed, lounge suite, kitchen table, flat screen TV, DVD, reverse cycle air conditioning and balcony. Free WIFI is also available inside room.
The rate for these rooms is $239.00 per night for 1-2 guests. The lounge can be made into a double sofa bed for an additional $30 per night. We recommend either 1 adult or 2 small children for use of the sofa bed for comfort reasons.

DHAA Members: To obtain the discounted DHAA Ltd Membership price you are required to be a financial member of the DHAA Ltd on the date of purchase.

Student Members: Student Members must be an eligible and current student member of the DHAA Ltd at the time of purchasing the ticket. DHAA Student Membership is free and expires on 30 June of the year following your graduation.

Cancellation Policy: 10 days notice must be given in writing to [email protected], if you cannot attend, to receive a refund. Reimbursements will not be made after this time. Registration can be transferred to another person of the same membership status.
