Dr Sam Gue – Principal Paediatric Dentist
BDS, MDSc(Paed), FRACDS, FRACDS(Paed), FICD
Sam was born in Broken Hill, NSW and moved to Adelaide 1979 and graduated from the University of Adelaide in 1997 and completed his specialist training in Paediatric Dentistry at the University of Sydney in 2001.
In 2003 Sam relocated back to his home town of Adelaide and started his specialist private practice on South Terrace and was also appointed as a staff specialist at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital. In 2004, Sam was appointed as Medical Unit Head, Department of Paediatric Dentistry, Women’s and Children’s Hospital and also Head, Discipline of Paediatric Dentistry, University of Adelaide and later appointed as Associate Professor in Paediatric Dentistry at both the Women’s and Children’s Hospital and University of Adelaide. Sam has been Head of the Department of Paediatric Dentistry since 2004 and has run the specialist training programme in Paediatric Dentistry at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital and University of Adelaide. During this period Sam became the inaugural Fellow in the special stream of Paediatric Dentistry and a Fellow of the International College of Dental Surgeons and Pierre Fauchard Academy. Sam is also a full member of the Australasian Academy of Paediatric Dentistry, the Australian Dental Association, the Australian and New Zealand Society of Paediatric Dentistry, the International Association of Paediatric Dentistry and the American Academy of Paediatric Dentistry.
Sam has published numerous articles and a chapter in textbook, Clinical Cases in Paediatric Dentistry, has lectured widely and has been awarded several research grants. Sam enjoys all aspects of paediatric dentistry and has the philosophy and providing comprehensive oral management of all children. He has particular interest in the management of medically compromised children, paediatric oral surgery and oral medicine, and children with cleft lip and palate children and craniofacial conditions, but overall he has enormous passion for providing the best possible care for all children. He is also a consultant with the Australian Craniofacial Unit and works actively with many dental and medical colleagues to ensure the best dental care for all children.
Outside dentistry, Sam enjoys spending time with his wife and two children and travelling.
Dr Simona Gatej – ” Local and systemic effects of probiotics in experimental periodontics”
Dr Simona Gatej is a visiting research fellow with the University of Adelaide, Adelaide Dental School. She completed her PhD last year at the University of Adelaide and her thesis entitled Clinical and microbiological effects of probiotics in experimental periodontitis has been awarded the University Dean’s Commendation for Doctoral Thesis Excellence. During her candidature, Simona won many awards to present at national and international conferences, most recently representing Australia and New Zeeland at the prestigious International Association of Dental Research Hatton Award Competition in London, in the Senior Researcher category. She has published her research in prestigious peer-reviewed dental journals and also dedicates her time as a reviewer for national and international journals. Simona also has a Master of Science in Organic Chemistry and an Advanced Diploma in Oral Health.
In the past seven years, Simona has been associated with the dental and oral health students from Adelaide Dental School in a clinical tutoring role, helping teach students their valuable periodontal skills. She is a past member of the Adelaide Dental School Research Committee and Graduate Advisory Committee and she has been a volunteer assessor for the entry interviews for BDS and MBBS programs.
As a dental hygienist Simona has been working in general and specialist practices in Adelaide since 2007. Her clinical interests centre on the relationship between periodontal disease and the oral and gut microbiome. Outside dental interests, Simona enjoys cooking, gardening and spending time with her husband and their two teenage children.

DHAA Members: To obtain the discounted DHAA Ltd Membership price you are required to be a financial member of the DHAA Ltd on the date of purchase.
Student Members: Student Members must be an eligible and current student member of the DHAA Ltd at the time of purchasing the ticket. DHAA Student Membership is free and expires on 30 June of the year following your graduation.
Cancellation Policy: 10 days notice must be given in writing to [email protected], if you cannot attend, to receive a refund. Reimbursements will not be made after this time. Registration can be transferred to another person of the same membership status.
