Join us for a hands-on workshop focusing on instrument sharpening and maintenance.
A relaxed, informal and interactive workshop highlighting the fundamentals behind instrument sharpening practice. The course will discuss the importance and advantages of using sharp periodontal instruments, how to evaluate sharpness and how to re-establish sharp cutting edges whilst reviewing instrument design.
This hands on workshop actively focuses on simplification of manual sharpening techniques, how to use sharpening guides and aids whilst also discussing the benefits and implmentation of automated sharpening devices such as the Hu Friedy Sidekick.

Hu-Friedy Educational Consultant – Ms Andrea Maguire
Andrea has recently joined the Educational Consultant team for Hu-Friedy and currently holds a position with Metro South Oral Health (MSOH) as an Advanced Oral Health Therapist. This role includes operationally managing, mentoring and leading an Oral Health Services team and provides advanced clinical knowledge and high-level expertise and skills in complex, contemporary oral health clinical practice.
Andrea held the position of Program Coordinator (2015-2016) and Lecturer for the Bachelor of Oral Health Program (BOralH) from 2010 – 2016 at The University of Queensland (UQ), School of Dentistry. She graduated from The Queensland University of Technology in 2007 with a Bachelor of Health Science – Honours (Public Health) and was awarded a UQ Certificate in University Teaching Practice in 2012. Her teaching role supported the development of BOH students to graduate as high quality registered oral health practitioners.
DHAA Event Regulations
DHAA Members: To obtain the discounted DHAA Ltd Membership price you are required to be a financial member of the DHAA Ltd at the time of the event.
Student Members: Student Members must be an eligible and current student member of the DHAA Ltd at the time of the event. DHAA Student Membership is free and expires on 30 June of the year following your graduation.
ADOHTA Members: All ADOHTA members are required to show proof of membership to ADOHTA, please email [email protected]. You are required to be a current member at the time of the event to either DHAA Ltd or ADOHTA inc.
Cancellation Policy: 10 days notice must be given in writing to [email protected], if you cannot attend, to receive a refund. Reimbursements will not be made after this time. Registration can be transferred to another person of the same membership status.
