Sahil Bareja – BOH (USYD), GCOhSc(Adelaide); Clinical educator, USYD; Committee member, DHAA; Founder, Mydentalhealth app
Sahil is a dual qualified Dental therapist and hygienist with advanced skills in adult restorative dentistry. Sahil graduated from University of Sydney and further completed his Graduate certificate in Oral health science from the University of Adelaide to expand his skills in adult restorative dentistry. Since graduation, Sahil has completed numerous continuous professional development courses to update his skills both clinically and professionally. In 2014, Sahil completed his Mini-residency in Snoring, Sleep Apnoea and TMJ Disorders and he further pursued his interest by enrolling in Masters of Sleep medicine from University of Sydney. Sahil works closely with multidisciplinary team at the Institute of Sleep medicine in detection of Obstructive Sleep Apnoea. Along with working in private practice, Sahil also teaches at the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Sydney as a Clinical educator. Sahil is also a founder of a dental education app called Mydentalhealth, which enables patients to take responsibility of their oral health while at home unsupervised. Sahil takes pride in his work and has special interest in field of Dental sleep medicine.
Sahil’s combined knowledge in the field of periodontal disease and Sleep Apnoea enables him to provide an effective treatment by not just treating periodontal disease, but also correcting associated risk factors, such as mouth breathing and chronic dry mouth by managing the associated airways.
Lecture Synopsis: Sleep apnea and the role of the Dental Hygienist and Therapist
-Understand the difference between airways in normal sleep cycle and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA)
-Identify risk factors of OSA
-Discuss intra-oral signs and physiological changes that increase risk of OSA
-Identify your role as a Dental professional in detecting high risk OSA patients and understanding multi-disciplinary team involved in OSA
-Identify treatments available for OSA, including MAS and CPAP and their implications to oral health
Tabitha obtained a Bachelor of Oral health from the University of Newcastle, since graduation Tabitha has worked in private practice and also as a clinical educator at Sydney University. Tabitha is currently studying a graduate diploma in Obstructive Sleep Apneoa and is passionate about continuing education. Previously the NSW Chair and now NT director she is a passionate volunteer for the DHAA. Tabitha is a Swiss Dental Academy trainer and regularly presents both in Australia and overseas.
Lecture Synopsis: Changing the Game
Dental Biofilm is the main eitological factor for caries, periodontal and peri-implant infections. Guided biofilm therapy is a new and revolutionary approach to dental prophylaxis and biofilm removal. GTB follows the European Federation of Periodontology’s (EEP) recommendations on professional mechanical plaque removal and oral hygiene instructions for home care. The lecture will talk through the steps of GBT and how to achieve the best results for your patients.
Ian Epondulan – BOH
Ian is an Oral Health Therapist and completed a Bachelor of Oral Health (BOH) degree from The University of Sydney in 2011. He volunteers for the Dental Hygienists Association of Australia (DHAA) Ltd. as NSW Director and has had clinical experience in Public Health Dentistry at NSW Health. Currently undertaking a Master of Public Health (MPH) at The University of Sydney he is passionate about Health Promotion and Health Advocacy especially amongst adolescents linking Oral Health with General Health. He is an Educator for the Students As LifeStyle Activists (SALSA) Program which aims to empower high school students to live healthier lives through healthy eating and physical activity.

Student Members – Student Members must be an eligible and current student member of the DHAA Ltd at the time of purchasing the ticket. Student Membership expires June 30th following your graduation. Student Membership to the DHAA Ltd is Free.
