Webinar - Inclusive Care for LGBTIQA+ Patients

Join us for an informed discussion around helpful approaches and back ground information when interacting with LGBTIQA+ patients.

 

During our discussion we will focus our attention on the emerging recognition of transgender, Intersex and Non-binary patients. We will review the journey for a patient undergoing transition, discuss relevant medications they may be taking and the effects those medications can have both on their general health and oral health.

Further, discuss their historical position in some cultures during the course of time. For Intersex and Non-binary patients our discussion will focus on clarifying their self determination and touch on the approiate use of pro-nouns to respectfully engage with these patients in a caring manner.  

 

About our speaker:

Andrew Terry

 

Andrew is a Lecturer in Dental Hygiene at The University of Sydney and has been teaching Periodontal instrumentation/screening, Oral Hygiene instruction with iTOP (Individually Oral health Prophylaxis) education since August 2015 for both the Bachelor of Oral Health (BOH) and the Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) programs. He also works in private practice every Friday.

Andrew's qualifications include being a Dental Therapist in QLD, Australia in 1993 and a Dental Hygienist in London, U.K in 1998. While working in Switzerland, he ratified his qualifications with the Swiss red cross to attain the protected title of "Dip. Dental Hygienist of Higher Education".

  • DHAA Event Regulations

    • DHAA Members - To obtain the discounted DHAA Ltd Membership price you are required to be a financial member of the DHAA Ltd at the time of the event.

      Student Members - Student Members must be an eligible and current student member of the DHAA Ltd at the time of the event Student Membership expires June 30th following your graduation. Student Membership to the DHAA Ltd is Free.

      ADOHTA Members - All ADOHTA members are required to show proof of membership to ADOHTA. You are required to be a current member at the time of the event to either DHAA Ltd or ADOHTA inc. To access the discounted price please create an account and email proof of current membership to [email protected]. We will update your account to display the correct registration price for the duration of the membership period displayed in your proof of membership.

      Dietary Requirements - We will attempt to accommodate all dietary requirements. Please ensure you specify any dietary restrictions when registering and at least seven (7) days prior to the event so we can notify the event catering team. 

      Photography Policy - The DHAA reserve the right to take photographs and videos for publicity, illustration, advertising, web content and reports on events and symposia. These images will not be shared directly with any other business without prior consent. If you would prefer your image NOT be used, then please notify us in advance, in writing, of the event that you are attending to [email protected]

      Event Cancellation Policy

      If you are cancelling your registration to attend an event please contact us at [email protected]

      If notification is received:

      More than 5 working days before the event:

      - A partial refund less a cancellation fee of 10% of the registration fee will be given.

      Less than 5 working days before the event:

      - Event registration fees will not be refunded 5 working days from the event as catering will have been finalised and therefore incurred non-refundable costs to the DHAA.

      Alternatively, the event registration may be transferred to another person of the same DHAA membership status up to 24 hours prior to the event - please contact [email protected] to arrange a transfer.

      Non Attendance
      If a registered attendee fails to attend an event for which they have registered, the event registration fees will not be refunded.

      COVID-safe and booking with confidence
      We know that the world has changed and there is always going to be uncertainty around events in the age of a pandemic, so here is our approach to making this work:

      - The event will be fully COVID-safe and compliant above and beyond any basic government health requirements to do what we reasonably can to protect your health and safety and that of all attendees. That will include appropriate social distancing and other measures.
      - COVID event cancellation: if the event is cancelled or has to be moved due to COVID issues, we will offer you a full refund. - If you’re unwell please contact us at [email protected] for assistance.

        Our webinars are run through the Zoom.us online platform. Please ensure when logging on to the Zoom platform for the first time that you enter your full name and email address as this information is used to register your attendance and award your CPD certificate.
