Webinar - Oral Health Students Dental Assisting Workshop

This webinar is tailored to help our Oral Health Student members gain skills to help them obtain a dental assisting position (and more dental industry exposure) while undertaking their oral health studies.
Dental clinics across the country offers a significant number of part time dental assisting positions for young people. To many, this is their first job in their working life. This is of particular significance to oral health students as besides financial gain, they will acquire valuable practical experience in real life environment. The experience complements the university study program and links academic learning to practice, providing a competitive advantage for participants on the employment market later.

In some cases, oral health students progress to work as dental practitioners in practices where they had previously worked as assistants throughout their university study.

Getting started in dental employment could be quite challenging for some, as most employers would prefer someone who already has some experience or exposure to the working environment.

This program intends to provide prospective job seekers an introductory skill set and knowledge that prepare them to commence employment in dental practices.

On completion of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Outline the benefits of starting dental assisting job while study oral health
  • Summarise practical resume and interview tips for part time dental assisting jobs
  • Provide a basic overview of dental practice management software
  • List key aspects of charting, booking, payment and patient management at a dental clinic
  • Describe key aspects of adequate PPE for dental clinic staff
  • Outline key aspects of infection control and the sterilisation process

Post workshop service

On completion of the workshop, each participant will receive:
  • A DHAA Certificate of Completion
  • A referral letter from the DHAA National President to prospective employers confirming that the participant had completed a training program that prepares for entry level employment in dental assisting.
  • A program participant data base will be maintained with the consent of individual participants to facilitate future recruitment activities. Participants will receive relevant job opportunities information via email.
