This lecture will discuss the role of accredited pharmacists working directly with aged care facilities and community patients, how funding is provided for these services and the potential impact of medications on oral health.

- To identify possible drug related oral adverse effects
- To understand the role of consultant pharmacists within the aged care setting

About our speaker:
Neil Petrie
BPharm, Accredited Pharmacist
Neil is a consultant pharmacist based in Melbourne, specialising in Quality Use of Medicines (QUM) in the residential aged care setting. His extensive involvement in the residential care environment involves reviewing resident’s current medication and providing QUM activities such as education, audits and advice. Neil’s company, PRN Consulting, has developed a number of web based resources supporting the Quality Use of Medicines. Neil has also been involved with projects supporting medicine use within community based nursing services, past President of the Victorian Asthma Health Educators Association and has served on numerous Medication Advisory Committees in residential aged care, both rural and city and for the National Prescribing Service. Neil was the recipient of the Victorian Pharmacist Medal in 2014, PSA Quality Use of Medicines in Pain Management award 2016 and Australian Association of Consultant Pharmacist award 2019.
