Synopsis:

Should We Try To Save The Tooth? An Endodontic and Periodontic Perspective - Dr Barbara Plutzer & Dr Andre Bendyk

Daily patients seek our expertise as to whether we treat and maintain periodontally, endodontically or restoratively compromised teeth - or make the call to extract and potentially replace. In this presentation we aim to examine factors influencing this decision making process; including patient related factors such as age, health and cost of treatment, through to tooth-specific factors including periodontal status, endodontic disease, structural integrity and restorability. The overall aim is to identify the teeth that through high quality dental intervention can be predictably maintained for reasonable time frames.

Peri-Implantitis - Causation, Prevention and Treatment - Dr Andre Bendyk

With more implants being placed than ever before and time in situ for many implants extending well beyond 10 years the management of peri-implantitis is a rapidly growing and challenging part of dental practice. The anatomy of the threaded, roughened implant surface inherently makes treatment difficult. This presentation will look at the pathogenesis of periodontitis, treatment options and why preventing the disease process from commencing is so critical.

Supporting Remote Australians - Dr Vaibhav Garg

Patients in remote Australia suffer a disproportionate burden of chronic disease including oral disease, have poorer access to health care and many other disadvantages. An Integrated Primary Health approach which includes Oral health in a meaningful way allows us to support patients in these locations to not only improve their Oral health but also General health. The RFDS is aiming to pioneer this approach through their prevention program utilising Hygienists as a key drivers of change.

Exploring the "special" in Special Needs Dentistry - Dr Trudy Lin

  • Journey from undergraduate to Special needs dentistry specialist
  • SND philosophy and treatment principles
  • Research thesis on use of a case mix tool to increase access to care for people with disability. Outline of current eligibility and referral pathways for SND

Cleft Lip and Palate: Incidence, Aetiology and History - Professor Craig Dreyer

The presentation will examine the way cleft lip and palate has been managed throughout the centuries. It will touch on the myths and legends associated with the condition and look at the history leading to modern treatment.
