About Our Speakers: 

Briana McMillan
Speech Pathologist/ Clinic Director

Briana McMillan is a Speech Pathologist and Clinic Director of Let’s Talk Intervention Services, Wollongong. Briana graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Health Science (Hearing and Speech) and Masters of Speech Language Pathology. Briana is a Certified Practicing Speech Pathologist (CPSP) and a member of Speech Pathology Australia (SPA). She is trained in Key Word Sign, the Lidcombe Program for stuttering, Sounds-Write and VoiceCraft. Before opening Let’s Talk in 2019, Briana worked in Narellan, Sutherland Shire and the Illawarra where she provided assessment and intervention for individual clients, small groups and as part of a multidisciplinary/ transdisciplinary team.

Briana provides assessment and intervention for children of all ages across a range of difficulties. She is passionate about providing the highest quality of care by fostering strong relationships with her clients to ensure therapy is engaging and integrating evidence from the literature to help ensure that all children reach their full potential. Briana is also part of the CHAMPS team (Childhood Autism Multidisciplinary Private Service) with Dr Virginia Oliveira (Paediatrician) and Dr Nick Marsden (Clinical Psychologist).

 

Dr Zanab Malik
Special Needs Denist BDS, DClinDent(SND), FRACDS(GDP), MRACDS(SND)

Zanab completed her undergraduate training in Dentistry in 2011 with the University of Adelaide. After moving back home to Sydney, she worked for seven years in private practices in regional and metro NSW and as a resident in public specialist paediatric and special needs dentistry departments at Sydney Dental Hospital. She attained Fellowship with the Royal College of Dental Surgeons (FRACDS) in 2018. Finding her passion, Zanab specialised and successfully attained a Doctor in Clinical Dentistry (Special Needs Dentistry) in 2020 with The University of Sydney as the third graduate of the program. During her training at Westmead Centre for Oral Health, Zanab received the prestigious Ronald Ettinger Scholarship and received multiple awards for her research. Zanab is passionate about comprehensive dental management for people with special healthcare needs, is a strong advocate for these patients and believes they should receive the highest quality dental care. She is excited to be working with Sydney Specialist Dental Group and combining her experience with paediatric and adult patients with special healthcare needs, particularly as they transition to adult services and establish a lifelong dental home.

Zanab continues to develop her knowledge and skills to help those people with disabilities and the most vulnerable of our population, currently completing a Diploma in Dementia Care. She also continues her research in bariatric dentistry, an area of expertise, having published widely in well-renowned journals and presented her findings locally and internationally. In addition to her work with Sydney Specialist Dental Group, Zanab works in the public Gosford Hospital Dental Clinic with Central Coast Local Health District, managing medically complex patients and is involved in undergraduate teaching of oral health in a conjoint role with the University of Newcastle. Zanab enjoys teaching and sharing her expertise and is the current RACDS NSW/ACT Candidate Advisor in addition to being an active member of the Australia and New Zealand Academy of Special Needs Dentistry, Australian Society of Special Care in Dentistry, Australian Dental Association and International Association of Disability and Oral Health.

Barry Hashemi

Pharmacist/Lecturer at UOW

Barry studied pharmacy at Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga and has been lecturing pharmacology in the faculties of Chemistry and Undergraduate School of Medicine at the University of Wollongong for more than 10 years. He has been a pharmacist for 19 years. Barry currently owns three pharmacies. He enjoys working as a pharmacist as he finds his profession very rewarding He has been assisting the pharmacy board of Australia with setting the written and oral examinations. He has been examining pharmacy graduates over the past 15 years.
